The castle and fortress Regenstein was first mentioned in a document in 1162 and still today the imposing fortress rises on the prominent rock spur made of sandstone against the backdrop of the Harz mountains.
The castle complex is open to the public and various rooms have been prepared in the open-air museum. On the tour of the castle you will learn a lot about the history of Regenstein.
You can also explore the area around the fortress and the forest invites you to a short hike. The castle mill can also be reached from the parking lot of the fortress and on the way to the sandstone caves you can immerse yourself a little deeper in history on the medieval army road.
